Care Guide

Your ACME product was made to be used often and used well. Crafted from quality materials, it's designed to handle everything from busy café shifts to slow mornings at home.

A little care goes a long way, so here are a few simple tips to help keep it at its best for years to come.

Circularity

We expect your ACME pieces to last a very long time with proper care. When the time comes to retire it, we encourage you to donate it where it can be reused, or, if it’s no longer suitable for use, take cutlery to a metal recycler. Scrap stainless steel can be melted down, reprocessed, and given a new life in other products.

Retired porcelain pieces don’t have to lose their story either. With a little care, they can be put back together using epoxy glue or through Kintsugi, the traditional art of restoring ceramics with lacquer and gold. They can also be repurposed as decorative objects like trinket dishes or small planters. Even broken fragments can be reused for plant drainage, jewellery, or donated to local mosaic studios to be transformed into new works.

As part of our commitment to keeping good tableware in circulation for as long as possible, we’re also trialling a give-back programme in partnership with charities and non-profits. Depending on the circumstance, we may be able to take back pre-loved ACME pieces in good condition, give them a second life, and offer a discount on new purchases as a small celebration of keeping cups out of landfill.

Product Safety

ACME products are designed for longevity, but like all ceramics, they can develop chips or cracks over time. If an item becomes chipped or structurally damaged, it’s best to remove it from circulation, as it may no longer be safe to use. Cracks can harbour moisture and bacteria that are difficult to clean, and chips may create sharp edges.

All ACME products are tested at the factory and meet European food safety standards.  Trace amounts of lead can occur naturally in raw materials, and our tableware may contain minute levels, but these are well below the strict limits set by EU regulations and are considered completely food safe. All products comply with European Council Directive 84/500/EEC and Commission Directive2005/31/EC, which regulate the allowable levels of leachable lead and cadmium from ceramic products intended for food use.

Our stainless steel cutlery is also fully compliant, meeting the Council of Europe Resolution CM/Res (2020) 9 and the EDQM Technical Guide on Metals and Alloys used in Food Contact Materials and Articles (2024, 2nd Edition), which set limits on metal migration.

In short, everything is tested, compliant, and designed to be safely used every day.
